The synthesis of π-conjugated nanostructures on surfaces and the emergence of π-radicals is a thrilling topic of research, provided the potential exchange magnetic coupling to be established between the radicals [1,2]. I will present our recent findings [3-6] regarding the expression, measurement and maximization of the magnetic exchange coupling between unpaired spins of carbon atoms, which is a key magnitude for potential future application in nanomagnetism of such on-surface synthesized compounds.
